I went to the 92Y Tribeca last night and checked out Dave Douglas and his new quintet! What a great show featuring Aoife O’Donovan on vocals. She is the vocalist for “Crooked Still” and this was her first jazz endeavor that I am aware of. The program consisted of traditional tunes that Dave’s late mother suggested he play so it was a very nice blend of hymns and original tunes bringing a rootsy, folky vibe to Daves modern composition and playing style. It was great for me because I have been a long time Dave Douglas fan! I got to meet the band and hand out with a few of them for drinks after the show.
